During rooting or updating HTC one x or s, you need android USB driver. Without download it on pc you can’t run procedure of rooting in a streamline. Both HTC smart device required same driver, so don’t be hesitate between both of them.
Default configure with android ice cream sandwich, but could be upgrade to jelly bean, I don’t know about 4.2.2 for this but you may review Techblis for more detail about rooting.
