It's good to see the first couple of pages go live on my personal information website, NelsonWootton.com. The design and coding work was done by Lem Bingley, based on the existing Lyfthelm.com look and feel.

There'll be some more pages to come, when the content has been written, describing what I've done in the past and hope to achieve in the future. I have some really interesting projects in the pipeline that I unfortunately can't talk about just yet.

In the meantime, if you spot any typos or other errors, leave a comment and it'll be fixed up in no time.

Gearing up for new websites

I'm hoping to use this blog to talk a little about what's going on in my professional life over the next few months, as some of the projects I've been working on are finally getting to the stage where I can talk about them openly.

iPhone 5 wrapped with Metal Back

A new rumor says the next generation iPhone will use quite a lot of layers of metal on its back (the back of the iPhone 5).

As quoted from Info Tech, Thursday (12/29/2011), Boy Genius Report says the new generation Apple's smartphone is likely to be present in the autumn of next year.

In addition, a new construction that blends aluminum on the back and the material is made of rubber or plastic on the sides, will connect the front and back of the iPhone 5.

Of course, this is not the first time Apple is rumored to be pairing with the metal back to its iPhone in the future. Citing sources from Foxconn, who did not want to be named, a report from 9to5Mac in March last year, that Apple when it was brewing a device model that has a flat back and made from metal.

Then, in August, when it was rumored that states the next iPhone comes with a screen smaller than 4-inch, DigiTimes also reported on the back of the iPhone device will be converted into a metal chassis, instead of glass.

In fact, that occurred in October is the unfolding of the iPhone 4S, with some increase in hardware and software. But not different from its predecessor, the iPhone 4S still using glass materials for the back.

The iPhone 4 and 4S users who are interested in using the metal back on his smartphone, can get it from third-party chassis manufacturers. These options as well as other unauthorized modification to open the device, thereby removing the iPhone warranty.

- Not all towers and wireless routers are in our database. Sorry!

- Moving in the direction of your cell tower will not always improve reception due to interference effects and local geography.

- Data is mainly crowd sourced – wireless and antenna locations are calculated by triangulation. This means they are not exact, and sometimes they may be way off. As more people use this app the data will improve.

- Click on the “i” on the overview screen to see more signal stats – including signal RSSI in ASU and dBm

Advanced notes:

- For GSM, cell tower are identified via cell id and location area code (CID and LAC)

- For CDMA, cell towers are identified via Network ID, Base sub-station ID and system ID (NID, BSSID and SID). CDMA phones include the Droid (II, X, HD, etc.), EVO 4G – all phones on Verizon and Sprint.

- For tablets (somde models of Xoom, Asus Transformer and others) that do not have cell radios the app will only work in wifi mode

- For devices that do not have access to google APIs OpenStreetMaps are used

- For the Galaxy S2 there is an issue reading the signal strength, this is a bug and effects all signal apps, however the app does show cell tower location as normal and works in wifi mode perfectly

- This app is developed on a Nexus One, but tested on many phones (I also have a HTC Hero still on 1.5!), let us know any problems. Sorry if we’re slow in replying, but we read every email.

Go to the graph tab, touch the graph to bring up new options, select “show detail” and GSM users can see their phone communicating with multiple towers, being passed from one to the other. In wifi mode you can see the relative strengths of nearby wifi routers, if you have a choice of connections it can be a useful way of determining which will be more stable.
