The Sims 1 + Expansion | Game in The Sims series is more of a sandbox game in that they lack a defined purpose (except for a couple of expansion packs and then the console version that introduced this style of gameplay). Player creates virtual people called "Sims" and places them in houses and helps direct their moods and satisfy their desires. The Sims is a strategic simulation computer game created by game designer Will Wright, published by Maxis, and distributed by Electronic Arts. Game Sims Series

Electronic Arts released The Sims 2 on September 14, 2004. Sequel, developed by Maxis, took place in a full 3D environment as opposed to the projection dimetric from the original game.
